New York Botanical Garden

The New York Botanical Garden The New York Botanical Garden is a 250-acre area in New York City's Bronx borough. It was built in 1891 and is classified as a National Historic Landmark. Inside the park is a 50-acre remnant of the type of forest that used to fill all of New York City. The Botanical Garden features 50 garden and plant collections with collections of day lilies, orchids, conifers, and flowering trees. There are also gardens dedicated to roses, perennials and rocks. The New York Botanical Garden is home to one of the largest Victorian glasshouses in the United States. The glasshouse, called the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, was opened to the public for the first time in 1902. It's open all year around and is home to the permanent exhibit, A World of Plants. This exhibit features plants from 11 habitats including two types of rain forests, aquatic and carnivorous plant displays, and plants from deserts in the Americas and Africa. Other historic buildings that are popular attractions to visitors to the park include the Snuff Mill, the Library Building, and Stone Cottage. Gardening demonstrations and continuing education events are also favorite visitor activities. The garden has two restaurants and several picnic areas.
