Madison Square Garden New York

Madison Square Garden is often colloquially known at The Garden. The original Garden was formerly the passenger depot of the New York and Harlem Railroad. The second Garden was designed by architect Stanford White who was later murdered by a millionaire in the same building he built. The third Garden opened in 1925 and it hosted seven NCAA men's basketball championships between 1943 and 1950. This Madison Square Garden was closed in 1968 and the fourth, and current one, was built with 20,976 square feet of Arena floor space on 820,000 square feet of land. The Garden's Arena hosts 320 events every year including political national conventions, WrestleManias, boxing fights, NBA basketball games and live concerts. The musical artist who has appeared the most times in The Garden is Elton John. He performed there 55 times and a permanent installation honoring him is in the Arena. Madison Square Garden has other venues besides the Arena. They are: · The Theater at Madison Square Garden with a 30x64-foot stage and a seating section that holds 2,000 to 5,600 people. · The Expo Center formally known as The Rotunda. It's a 36,000 square foot area used for trade shows, cat shows, and banquets and receptions. · Two restaurants (the Garden Club and Play-by-Play) and a 9,500 square foot terrace.
