Ellis Island New York

Ellis Island was a huge immigration depot between the years 1892 to 1954. Over 12 million immigrants landed there. It is home to the Statue of Liberty. Besides the Statue of Liberty, visitors often go to Ellis Island to see the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. Interesting attractions in the Ellis Island Immigration Museum are: · The award-winning film documentary called, “Island of Hope, Island of Tears.” · The self-guided exhibits full of artifacts, photographs, prints, videos, interactive displays and oral histories. · The American Immigrant Wall of Honor with the names of 600,000 immigrants. · The American Family Immigrant History Center that allows access to records of crews and passengers of the ships that came to Ellis Island. · Ellis Island Theatrical Production featuring a 30-minute theatrical production called Embracing Freedom about the challenges of immigrants and based on the oral histories of Ellis Island immigrants. A fee is charged to see the production. Ellis island is open every day except December 25. The only way to get to the island is by the Circle Line-Statue of Liberty Ferry. Pick up is from Battery Park in New York and Liberty State Park in New Jersey.
