One of New Zealand’s top heritage attractions is the Howick Historical Village. Located within easy reach of downtown Auckland, the village offers visitors a glimpse at how life once was for residents of Fencible village during the early years of European settlement in New Zealand. The third Sunday of each month, Howick transforms into a bustling community, including 30 volunteers in period costumes going about their day-to-day business. Opportunities crop up to see everything from cannon firing to a blacksmith in action and even a Victorian-style classroom.
You can cap off your perfect day of musing over New Zealand’s past with a visit to the Homestead Café for afternoon tea, or a dinner stop at the Bell House Restaurant. Also, the Village Shop offers a solid selection of retro toys and other items suitable for gifts and souvenirs. Howick Historical Village is open daily from 10am, exceptions to this include Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Good Friday and Anzac Day when the park is closed.
