The Museum of Transport and Technology, or MOTAT, in Auckland offers a wide variety of exhibits showcasing the rich history of transportation and technology in New Zealand. With some 300,000 items in its displays, MOTAT has a unique ability to inform, engage and educate the public about through a series of areas dedicated to different transport and technology topics. Standing exhibitions at MOTAT cover topics ranging from aviation pioneers to road transport, early Auckland settlers and primary industries.

Outside the main museum area, MOTAT visitors can take the tram or make a short drive to the Great North Road site and take in the Sir Keith Park Memorial Aviation Collection, the Military Collection and the Rail collection. The museum has an on-site café and all the usual amenities visitors expect. MOTAT is open daily from 10am to 5pm except for Christmas Day, when the museum is closed. The majority of MOTAT attractions follow the museum’s opening hours, but the Tram service doesn’t operate during Pacifica Festival weekend in March, and some exhibits may be closed from time to time.
