Perhaps the most unique thing about Britomart Transport Centre is the fact that the railway station is hidden underground – all three platforms, all five lines of rail traffic, and some 17,000 passengers an hour are tucked away beneath the buildings in the area. The streets surrounding Queen Elizabeth Square, where Britomart is located, have been redeveloped to enable bus traffic to move through the area with ease. And, a glass canopy stretches from Custom Street to Quay Street, meaning travellers can move between ferries, buses and trains in a sheltered environment.
