Adrenaline junkies and extreme sports enthusiasts, there are plenty of top attractions on the South Island – perhaps none is more of a draw than the Kawarau Bridge Bungy Jump in Queenstown. The Kawarau Suspension Bridge was the world’s first bunjy jump site. Located above the beautiful Kawarau River, the permanent site with a 43-metre drop offers a variety of bungee jump options, including the ever-popular water-touch jump, tandem jumps and a number of solo bungy jump options.
The Kawarau Bridge Bungy site has been active since November 1988, and today’s visitors can choose to drive themselves or take a bus to the site with the legendary AJ Hackett Bungy folks. Jumpers receive a commemorative t-shirt, and are invited to enjoy a relaxing drink in the on-site wine bar. The bungy centre includes a simulator, museum and shop for those all-important souvenirs.
