The Evje Mineralparken opened officially in 1992 to provide information and entertainment to those interested in stones and minerals who have no background in their study. While the study and collection of minerals is quite popular in Norway, most visitors to hotels in Evje are totally clueless to such things and can really enjoy this basic exhibit for admiration purposes. The area chosen for the park is scenic and peaceful with steep mountainsides.

The Evje Mineralparken is actually a display of minerals and mining equipment throughout the tunnels of the old mines, with several seating areas through the exhibits for visitors to sit on and rest. The park sells coffee and ice cream and has a mineral shop, selling souvenirs and products that are wholly or partly made of stone. You can also find books about geology and minerals for all ages. While the park is basically a museum, this term is not favored in Norway and was avoided in naming the display.
