The Fantoft Stave Church was not originally located in Bergen, Norway. In fact, it was built in Fortun in Sogn in 1150. It wasn’t moved to Bergen until 1883. It actually burned down in 1992, so the church seen today by guests of hotels in Bergen is the rebuilt version. Fortunately, it was restored to its original beauty and appears just as it did previous to the fire.

Something to keep in mind is that the Fantoft Stave Church isn’t in the center of Bergen, and this treasure of Norway could be difficult to find. As a tourist, it is important to pay attention to road signs as you head toward the Fantoft Stave Church so that you don’t get lost or drive around for hours looking for this attraction. Once you arrive, you can enjoy the quaint but brilliant construction and architecture of the centuries-old design, surrounded by tall trees and walking paths. The Church is a little out of the way, but you can still come back to Bergen and visit the Knitting Museum or Rosenkrantz Tower.
