The Arc de Triomphe is probably the most photographed monument in Paris. This impressive triumphal arch was erected almost 200 years ago, is 50 metres high and 45 metres wide. A roof platform provides magnificent views of the Grandes Avenues leaving the Etoile Square (Star Square) in all directions. The Champs-Elysées is one of the great avenues of the world. Almost 2 km long, it stretches between Place de la Concorde and the Arc de Triomphe. This is where Parisians and visitors mix, where the troops parade on the 14th of July, and where cyclists finish the Tour de France race. On the historic site of the Trocadero, the Chaillot Palace was erected, housing various museums. The nearest metro stop is at 50 metres, and the metro is definitely the fastest means of transport in downtown Paris.
