Parc Monceau Paris

The Parc Monceau is one of the first landscape parks to be constructed in Paris. It was designed the French revolution and eventually became a public park in a very affluent quarter of Paris. The original designer said that he intended it "to bring together all ages and all parts of the world in a single garden". Many time periods and cultural representations are presented here such as a Roman ruin, an Egyptian pyramid and other buildings that were each inspired by China, the Middle Ages and other periods dating back many centuries. The Parc Monceau is a very romantic conception that is made even more romantic by the lovers of Paris itself. The Parc Monceau is not very big but it is extremely attractive and only a thirty minute walk from the Place de l'Opera. visitors enjoy shady walks with leafy bowers, ponds and everything that makes Paris a romantic destination. There is even a famous pond known as the "Naumachie," that is encircled by a fluted Corinthian columns. The colonnade is so overgrown with vines that it looks like it could be thousands of years old. There is absolutely no formal order in the Parc. The trees grow naturally and the walks curve around in unexpected ways. The lawns are littered with broken Roman columns, archways and forgotten statuary. This is truly a wonderful sight to see.
