Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise Paris

It was in 1804 that the city decided to convert the property into the Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise. So, when it came to pass and the land did indeed become a cemetery, it became the burial place of quite a lot of famous people. These include singers Edith Piaf and Jim Morrison, whose grave is most frequented by visitors as well as authors Oscar Wilde, Marcel Proust and Honore de Balzac. There are also many monuments and sculptures placed here during the 19th century. One of these is the Mur des Federes, which was set in place to commemorate the 147 rebels who were shot during the Paris Commune on May 28, 1871 and has made the cemetery one of the sights of Paris to really visit.
