The creation of the Jardin des Tuileries was started in 1564, right at the same time the palace of the same name was constructed. While the palace was later on destroyed, the garden was redesigned by architect Andre le Notre in 1664. He was the one who saw to the layouts of the garden's paths and the design of its terrace overlooking the River Seine and the symmetrical flowerbeds. Every year, from June 21 to August 25, the garden hosts a fun fair featurung a big wheel that offers visitors a great view over Rue de Rivoli, which also cements it as among the best Paris attractions. The garden also houses the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume and the Orangerie.
