Pere Lachaise Paris

The Cimetière du Père-Lachaise is the biggest cemetery in all of Paris. It is also well known in Paris as the "Eastern Cemetery" and is one of the most famous in the entire world. The Eastern Cemetery has likely been visited by more people than any other resting place on the planet. It brings hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to its graves and many famous, historical figures have their remains left there. In the eastern corner of the park is the Mur des Fédérés where the 147 Communards were shot at dawn on 28 May 1871. They had made a final resistance among the graves the night before and were later buried where they had fallen against the wall. There are five Great War memorials there as well as hundreds of well-known graves. The Père Lachaise can be found very easily along the Boulevard de Ménilmontant in Paris, France. Tourists can merely go to the Metro stop in Paris on line 2 in order to enter at the front entrance of the cemetery. Another stop called "Père Lachaise" can be found by riding lines 2 or 3 and is more convenient to the back entrance of the cemetery. A visit to the Père Lachaise is a must for any tourist planning to see the great sights of Paris.
