The Place de la Concorde is located along the Seine and is the largest place in all of Paris. It separates the Tuileries Gardens from the entrance of the Champs Elysées. The Place de la Concorde is in the 8th district of the city and likely is the greatest urban achievement of the Enlightenment here. Today, the Place de la Concorde still has the same general appearance that it had in the eighteenth century. There was a magnificent statue of Louis XV that was removed during the Revolution and was later replaced by the Obelisk of Luxor. This obelisk is 22.83 meters high and is at the center of an oval whose two centers are also fountains. There is a statue that represents many of the large French cities such as Strasbourg, Marseille, Bordeaux, Brest and Rouen. There are also some monumental statues called The Horses of Marly which represent (not surprisingly) a group of horses. These are in fact replicas of the originals that were placed there, which are now at the Louvre Museum. Nearby are the l'Hôtel Crillon and the l'Hôtel of the Navy Minister. To the south is the bridge of the Concorde that was first constructed by Perronnet in 1790. This bridge leads to the Palais Bourbon in Paris. The Place de la Concorde is a very important destination for the tourists of France.
