The Plaza de Armas or the Plaza of Arms is one of the sights of Cuzco Peru. Plaza de Armas in the Hispanic World is the name of the main square in many Latin American cities and an example of this can be found in Cuzco. The name Plaza de Armas is derived from the fact that it can be a place of refuge in case there is an attack on the city. Arms would be supplied to those who come to this place in order to defend the city from outside threat.
Visiting the famous Plaza de Armas is one of the things to do in Cuzco. It is the same in many Latin American cities because Spanish conquerors would design their conquered cities in a standard military fashion based on a grid pattern. This pattern is designed in a way that one of the blocks would be vacant to form the Plaza. The Plaza de Armas is normally surrounded by churches and governmental buildings.
