The Convento de La Recoleta or the La Recoleta Convent is one of the sights Arequipa that is worth visiting. The convent was founded in 1848 by the Franciscans and it features various styles in its architecture. There is a Romaneque style and even a Neo-gothic style. An explanation for this is that the convent has been remodeled so many times. It first opened to the public in 1978.
Going to the convent to check out the displays in what used to be the rooms of the convent is one of the things to do in Arequipa. The convent now holds a collection from the Archeological and Anthropological Musuem. It also features a collection of the Natural History Museum and Religious Arts Museum.
