One of the things to do in Arequipa Peru is to visit its oldest university, the National University of St. Augustin of Arequipa or locally known as Universidad Nacional de San Agustin de Arequipa (UNSA). The UNSA is a state-owned, public university and has been established in November 11, 1828. It is a mission of the school to create professionals that would be able to produce and improve technology that can facilitate regional and national development.
One of the sights of Arequipa can be found in the UNSA and this is one of the largest stadiums in Peru, the Estadio de la UNSA. The university built and directs this stadium. Currently, the university is being hounded by strikes here and there, both from teachers who are asking for increase in salary and also from students. Given the importance of universities in Peru, it will be just a matter of time before a process of reform is worked out in order to resolve the issue.
