The Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport is located in Cuzco, a city in Peru which is considered to have the most number of tourist attractions. This airport is only serving international flights but it sometimes caters to chartered flights as well. This airport serves like an entrance to Cuzco attractions that is very important in Peruvian tourism.
The airport is named after Alejandro Velasco Astete, a pilot who was known to be the first person to fly over the Andes Mountain. He died during a stunt show as he tried to avoid crashing into a massive crowd of spectators. Compared to other major airports in Peru, there are no nearby hotels within the airport vicinity so sometimes tired travelers can be seen sleeping on the floor. Despite this, there are friendly alpacas outside the airport for viewing and picture taking purposes which is truly one of sights of Cuzco that is worth seeing.
