The Korikancha is considered to be one of the most important temples of Tahuantinsuyu and is an example of the fusion of two cultures, the Inca culture and the Western culture. It has polished stone walls that were used as foundations of the Santo Domingo Convent. The walls used to be ornamented by gold and silver and the temple was dedicated for sun worship. The walls also had images of the gods of thunder. The Korikancha that literally means “golden palace” used to be reserved only to the highest figures during that time to pay homage to the gods of Tahuantinsuyu. Now, it is an important part of Cuzco tourism.

The golden palace is definitely one of the sights of Cuzco. The original temple was destroyed by an earthquake and the present-day structure seen now was a tower rebuilt by Fray Freancisco Muñoz in 1780. A part of the temple was then destroyed by another earthquake in 1950 and it left behind Incan structures as well as a part of the “Solar Round Building”
