The House of the Inca Garcilazo de la Vega found in Calle Heladeros is one of the most popular sights of Cuzco. Inca Garcilazo de la Vega is a famous writer and two of his most famous works include "Comentarios Reales" and the "Florinda del Inca". He was the son of a Spanish captain Gracilazo de la Vega and Chimpu Occlio, a Cuzco princess. He became famous because he saw the necessity to save the history of the Inca Empire.

Now the house is important not only because of its history but also because of its architecture as it was built in an old Inca terrace. A visit to the Inca Garcilazo House is one of the things to do in Cuzco. It is currently the base of the Museo Historico Regional or the Historic Regional Museum where visitors can feast their eyes on the canvas collection of the Academy of Cuzco.
