One of the things to do in Lima is to visit the Plaza San Martin. The Plaza San Martin or San Martin square is a common name for many squares in Argentina and Peru. The plazas are named after the national hero General Jose de San Martin, an Argentine general who led the South America’s struggle for independence from Spain. San Martin was also named the Father of the Nation and his statue found in the Plaza San Martin was built in July 28, 1921 in the celebration of 100 years of independence of the country.

Plaza San Martin is one of the Lima attractions. It is the second largest square in Lima and one of the most beautiful because of the trees and the benches that makes it a great place to hang out. Fence posts and streetlamps are found around the square, as well as shops and restaurants that are frequented by business people during their lunch break.
