        Francisco Pizzaro statue Details

A trip around the capital of Peru would not be complete without a visit to one of the sights of Lima, the statue of the Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro located in the Lima City Walls park. Francisco Pizarro Gonzalez was a Spanish conquistador who conquered the Inca Empire and who founded the capital city Lima that he named La Ciudad de los Reyes. Jauja Valley was the first capital of Peru in April 1534 but was later changed to Lima because the former was too far. Pizarro considers his establishment of Lima on January 18, 1535 as one of the most important things he created in his life.Ramsey MacDonald sculpted the soldier wielding a sword and riding a horse and this statue was taken to Lima in 1934, definitely a part of the list of Lima attractions. The statue was transferred to the adjacent square of Limas Government Palace in 2003. It is now placed in the Lima City Walls park, surrounded by pre-hispanic murals of the 17th century.
