Though small compared to many of the well known facilities internationally, the Manila Zoo in the Philippines can provide a pleasant day trip for those experiencing their vacations in hotel in Manila. Like larger zoos, this one has the standard animal attractions, including aviary cages with lots of eagles, pigeons, doves, parrots, and the required peacock who will flash its Technicolor tail feathers at you at least once. There are also reptile enclosures (especially lizards), Indian elephants, monkeys, and other large mammals.

Other attractions at the Manila Zoo include a Kinder Zoo, a petting zoo facility for young children; and paddle boat rides on a large pond right in the center of the zoo. This expansive pond also includes an island in the center around which the boats float. Because many of the animals like to retreat to shade out of sight during the hot days in the Philippines, morning and evening are the best times to visit the Manila Zoo.
