Located right in the middle of Manila in the Philippines, Rizal Park is situated to overlook Manila Bay, right at the end of Roxas Boulevard, offering an excellent view to visitors. Originally named Luneta, this was a small area outside the Intramuros fort, shaped like a small moon (thus the name Luneta) that was cleared to prevent any sneak attacks. First created in the early 1800’s, this area to the south of the fort has since been the place of many of the most significant moments in the history of the country.

It was renamed Rizal Park to commemorate the execution of Dr. Jose Rizal, a martyr of the Philippine Revolution, which occurred in the park on December 30, 1896. Declarations have since been signed and political rallies held in this park in Manila. Perhaps of greatest interest, aside from the sheer beauty of the park, is that the monument within the park serves as Kilometre Zero to all other cities in the Philippines.
