The district of Faro, a popular destination for resort lovers, does contain the city of the same name. Faro has a very interesting historic quarter. There is an 18th century gate, a small dock, the Carmo Church, a 16th century Church of St. Peter and the Prince Henry Archaeological and Lapidary Museum. The Algarve region, host to Faro district, is known for its wine. If this is your interest, you should plan a visit to Lagoa. Consider the timing of the wine harvesting. It may effect whether you stay for a week or a weekend in Lagoa and the Faro district. Lagoa is a little town right in the center of Algarve’s wine trade. The major Lagoa sights involve wine. As Lagoa tourism would agree, the most popular of all Lagoa attractions is a visit to the town’s principal winery the Co-operative de Adega. While some may want to do other things in Lagoa, such as visit the beach or wander the craggy coastline, many want to find out about the region’s wine. Wine making is an integral part of Lagoa culture. You may go shopping in Lagoa for wine, in the market or at the Fatacil or Craft Fair.
