Leiria district is part of a region of Estremadura. Popular items are its crystal and hand-blown glass. In the city of Leiria, you can make purchases of these crafts or wander its streets looking at its architecture. There is the Castelo from 1135 and the 24th century. The city also has the Museo do Vidro featuring glass and crystal. In Óbidos, you can view the Renaissance Church of St. Mary with its interior of blue tiles or the Medeline elements of the Castelo. You can visit Caldas da Rainha – the Queen’s Baths. As Caldas da Rainha tourism points out, the major Caldas da Rainha attractions are the sulphur baths. Other Caldas da Rainha sights include the 16th century Manueline style Chapel of Our Lady of the People. The interior features hand-painted tile (azuleojs). This is particularly distinctive characteristic of the region. A distinct example of Caldas da Rainha culture, however, is found in its ceramics. They feature a cabbage-leaf or vegetable shape design. Try shopping for them in Caldas da Rainha on Rua Rafael Bordula Pinheiro, Rua São João deDeus and Rua das Montras. As for other things to do, consider visiting the Ceramics museum, sailing or strolling in Charles Park.
