The Torre Vasco da Gama or Vasco da Gama Tower is located in Lisbon. It is named after the 15th century Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama. The 145 m/476 ft-high steel lattice tower evokes the shape of a nautical sail, and was built over the Tagus River in 1998 for the Expo 98 World Fair. A discount hotel near the Vasco da Gama Tower in Lisbon means you cannot miss it as it is Lisbon's tallest building. It has a top viewing platform which can be reached by three spectacular panoramic glass elevators. The observation deck provides a fantastic view over all of Lisbon, the Tagus River, and the Vasco da Gama Bridge, under which there is a luxurious panoramic restaurant.
The base of the tower was a three-story building that served as the European Union Pavilion during the Expo.
