The city of Lisbon appeals greatly to those who enjoy astronomy. This popular attraction is one of the largest of its type in Portugal, and is combined with the Lisbon Maritime Museum to create one of the biggest such facilities in all of Europe. Built in 1965, this planetarium has been visited by more than three million people in the last several years.
The facilities at the Calouste Gulbenkian have improved recently due to the addition of a Model IX Universarium projector. This is expected to raise the rankings of this attraction, and place it on a level with some of the best and most modern planetariums in the world.
