This region in southern Portugal is a favorite of sun lovers. Here, the Bishop’s town of Vila do Bispo has a 17th century parish church to view; there is the 13th c. Romanesque and somewhat Gothic Chapel where Henry the Navigator prayed for a favorable outcome. For you to enjoy the coastal resorts with their fine beaches, alone takes more than a weekend. Algarve has beaches at Salema, Burgau, and Luz. There is also Praia da Rocha. Algarve can show you its beaches, including the odd shapes and caves – all in white limestone, of Algar Seco. You can also venture to Vilamura where you will find Cerro da Villa, part of the original Roman settlement in the region. There is a mosaic dating from around the 3rd century.
