What you need to know before traveling to Beiras

There are actually three divisions making up the Beiras. This is a large tract of land in Portugal and impossible to do justice to in a weekend. The Beiras stretch between the Douro in Portugal’s north and the Tagus in the south. There are the jagged peaks of the Serra da Estrala and the marshy waters near the coast. Visitors soon find they need time and money to explore the region.

The silver coast is a favorite for its beaches. But many go to Aveiro to view its network of canals. There are the beaches and bars found in Figueira da Foz and the cobbled streets of Coimbra rising in tiers over the Mondego River. Across the river you can visit the Convento de Santa Clara.
