The complex of Prague Castle is immense. There are churches, monasteries and gardens within it and the Hradčany. The Hrad is also home to a number of Palaces. Among the grandest is the Old Royal Palace.
The Old Royal or Králavský Place is in the Third Courtyard of the Prague Castle grounds. For centuries, it has been the seat of Bohemian Princes. It began as a Romanesque Palace under Sobĕslav I. This layer now forms the cellars of the present structure. Přemysl Otakar II established it as the King’s own palace building atop the cellars. Vladislav Jagiello came next. He is responsible for the top floor of the Palace with its massive Vladislav Hall. Here you can clearly see the Gothic ribbing. Be sure to climb the Riders’ Staircase with its gentle slope designed for horses and riders to make it safely to the indoor tournaments. Look up at The Court of Solomon, a fresco presiding over the Green Chamber of minor court matters. Visit the New Land Rolls Room with its Clerk Crests “wallpaper.” You can also wander through the All Saints Chapel with its Baroque finishes by Peter Parler
