A popular spot in Prague is Pĕtrin Hill. Climb up and you are sure to see an unusual sight. At its summit is a miniature Eiffel Tower. This building is a remainder from and a reminder of the Grand Prague Exposition of 1891. It is the Pĕtrin Tower.
The tower is only 194 feet (63.5m) tall. It is the shape of the Eiffel Tower, but it sit on an octagonal base. Prague built the structure of old railway ties to honor France. Built two years before the Eiffel Tower, Pĕtrin Tower acted as the major telecommunications tower. This ceased after the construction of the space-age communications tower, Žižkovská. Today, it is an observation platform. Tackle the spiral staircase. You climb up the 299 steps to reach the top and a viewing platform. On a clear day, you should be able to see the woods of Central Bohemia or the region’s tallest peak – Snĕska in the Giant Mountains.
