High Synagogue Prague

Originally, the Jewish Town Hall and the High Synagogue were inseparatable in many ways. The main entrance to the High Synagogue was through the town Hall. The main Hall of the High Synagogue was, therefore, located on the main floor for easy access and communication between the two structures. Although the building dates from 1568, the street entrance for the Synagogue is only from the 19th century. In that time period, the High Synagogue became a separate entity with its own main entrance and stairway. However, it did retain the original Renaissance vaulting and stucco décor. Today, you can view exhibitions on Jewish religious items. These range from the Torah mantle to silver ornaments going back to the 16th century.
