Romania is a land of incredible beauty and fascinating history. Brasov, located in the central region of the country is surrounded by the stunning Carpathian Mountains. The history here dates backs to the Neolithic age; in fact, many artifacts from this period can be seen at the Brasov History Museum. Given the location, tales about Dracula are persistent and for those who love the famed vampire can visit Bran Castle which is commonly, although mistakenly referred to as the home of Vlad the Impaler who was the inspiration for the nefarious blood sucker. Brasov's medieval period was marred by conflict as was the case with much of Europe and the Prejmer Fortress is a result of this. The Prejmer Fortress is a fortified church one of the largest in this section of Europe.
