The hotel is in a highly privileged position in the historic centre of Rome, in a gracious and elegant area near many historically interesting places, but sheltered from chaos and city traffic.
The hotel is situated at the north side of Rome's main train station, just off Via XX Settembre and within walking distance to the underground and several bus stops, which take you to any part of the city.
How to reach the hotel?To reach the Gambrinus Hotel, you can take a taxi, rent a car or take public transport. If you take the "Terravision Shuttle" you will get to the Termini Station, where you can take a taxi or bus n° 36 or 90, getting off at the 'Porta Pia' stop. Otherwise you can take the direct "Leonardo Express" train, which will take you to the Termini Station in about 20 minutes.
From the Rome "Ciampino" Airport:
To reach the Gambrinus Hotel, you can take a taxi, rent a car or take public transport. If you take the shuttle bus you will get to 'Via Marsala', near the Termini Station, where you can continue by taxi or by a bus n° 36 or 90, getting off at the 'Porta Pia' stop.
By train:
To reach the Gambrinus Hotel from the Termini Station, you can take a private taxi or public transport. Buses n° 36 and 90 stop at 'Porta Pia', near the hotel.
By car:
- From the North of Rome. Take the Grande Raccordo Anulare (the Rome Ring Road) in the direction of Fiumicino, until the "Salaria" exit. Take Via Salaria until Piazza Fiume and then continue straight on down Via Piave, where at number 35 you will find the Gambrinus Hotel.
- From the South of Rome. When you leave the highway, continue until the Grande Raccordo Anulare (the Rome Ring Road) in the direction of "Casilina". Leave the Ring Road at the "Casilina - direzione centro" exit and continue until San Giovanni. Then take Via Merulana, towards Santa Maria Maggiore, following the road signs for the Termini Station: first follow Via XX Settembre and then take Via Piave, where, at number 35, you will find the Gambrinus Hotel.

The hotel was a reasonably priced and in a fairly good location i.e. 5 mins from roma termini and spanish steps.The breakfast area in the hotel is small and the staff stop cooking well before the stated breakfast finish time.
the air conditioning in the rooms was not adjustable and was not very effective i.e. minimum temp 25 deg c.
when travelling to ciampino airport the hotel arranged a taxi for us, an estate car turned up instead of a mini-bus and the driver still wanted paying 60euro when we were initially quoted 45euro for a car and 60euro for the mini-bus. when we arrived at the airport the driver would not take less than 55euro and blamed the hotel in the typically ignorant italian fashion!!!Anonymous

It was located directly across from the bus stop which was two stops from the termini train station and metro.There is a 20 euro per day charge if you keep any drinks in the refrigerator and a soft drink costs 7 euro from the refrigerator.Anonymous

Walking distance to trevi fountain,spanish steps and keats' house. very nice pizza place opposite.We asked for a late check out, first it was 25 euros someone then said later it would be 50 euros and then it was settled at 35, so if someone says 50 to you say well someone else said 25 and then the should drop the price, like nearly everyone we experienced in rome they try to rip you off... plus the internet on the t.v didn't work nor could you buy movies to watch or extra chanels, so we only really watched sky news, as the other english speaking news channel, bbc, was fuzzy and cut out alot. i notified the receptionist of this the very first day and he just shrugged and asked me what i expected him to do. i asked him if he might fix it or get somebody that could and he just shrugged again and said there was nothing he could do. i probablly wouldn't use this hotel again.Anonymous

One of the two people working at the front desk treated me negatively when i asked for assistance in using the hotel's computer to check my flight, as the computer in the bar area was not available until a couple of hours later, at a time when i was expecting to be in transit to the airport. i was shocked when he said i could not use it, as i was clearly distressed that i was unable to confirm
