The hotel is located in the centre of Rome, only 20 meters from the Basilica of St. Maria Maggiore. Just around the corner from the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica and Via dei Fori Imperiali, all beautiful Roman attractions await you in the heart of the Eternal City.

The hotel is just 200 metres from the Opera House and 800 meters from the Roman Forum and Colosseum. At 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel you can find the air terminal.

How to reach the hotel? How to reach the hotel?

By car: Once you reach Rome from the highway, take the GRA (Grande Raccordo Anulare) and get off at the Via Tuscolana exit heading for the city centre. After 6.5 kilometers, turn left on Viale Furio Camillo and take Via Appia Nuova. Go through the roundabout at Piazza Re di Roma to Piazza San Giovanni. Continue straight down Via Emanuele Filiberto and turn left on Viale Manzoni. 200 meters down this street, turn right on Via Merulana: Go down the street towards the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica and you will find the hotel at number 19.

By airplane: The Fiumicino ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ Airport is 30 kilometers away. To reach the hotel from this airport, take one of the local trains (Leonardo Express train) that leave for the Termini Railway Station every 30 minutes. From here, follow the directions below as described in 'by train'.

The Ciampino Airport is 15 kilometers away. From the airport, take the bus to metro station Anagnina. From here, take metro line A to the Termini Railway Station. You can also take the TERRAVISION shuttle directly from the airport to the Termini Railway Station. From the train station, follow the directions below as described in 'by train'.

By train:
Once you are at the Termini Railway Station you can reach the hotel on foot; exit on the Via Giolitti side (left side of the station with the tracks behind you), walk 50 meters and turn left on Via Gioberti; walk to the end of the road to Piazza Santa Maria Maggiore and turn left on Via Carlo Alberto. Turn immediately to your right where you will see the Banca Popolare di Milano and Via Merulana where you can find the hotel at number 19. You can also take bus line 714 or 16 and get off after two stops at the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica.

Lovely hotel, 5 minute walk to termini, 10 minute walk to the colosseum couldn't have wished for a better location. room was lovely, looked just like the photos. easy to get to from the airport, just a bus and a metro.
I read up on the hotel before i came and knew it was hard to find and unmanned after 3. if you are going to arrive after 3 you will need to call the hotel when you get there to be let in or wait for someone to let you in. we let in 2 lots of people during th 6 days we were there, you're room keys and stuff will be waiting for you but you can't get into the hotel without a keycard or being buzzed in. as long as you are aware of this then you shouldn't have any problems.

Excellent room clean and the air con was great.
Had to ring manager when we arrived as we could not get into the inn and the same evening we got a phone call from the manager to see if we could go downstairs to let them in as the door was broken. you will need a mobile phone at this hotel as the bell on the door rings upstairs but there are no reception staff on only the cleaner/cook in the mornings from 7.30am to around lunch time if you arrive after this you will have problem getting into the hotel. also on the second day again another guest arrived downstairs ringing the bell for almost 30 mins again i had to meet her and explain about her key etc. my friends are going to rome in july and september and i would not recommend this hotel just for the access problems. if they got this correct this would be a wonderful hotel. the breakfast could do with fresh fruit not tined and some nice rolls etc.

The hotel has modern furnishings and is extremely clean and beautifully presented. the housekeeper, miss fe, is really friendly and helpful and does a fabulous job of keeping the rooms and hotel very clean. you are provided with a welcome pack on arrival including a street map of rome. the hotel is within walking distance of all major attractions and there are numerous restaurants closeby. the hotel is also 5 minutes walk from termini station/metro.

The merulana inn was a wonderful hotel in rome. i could not have been happier. it is one floor of a building, so there are only 6 rooms in total. they do not have a front desk person, there is only one lady who fixes the breakfast and who cleans the rooms. she is there in the morning until around 3 pm. the rooms were spacious and very clean. modern decor. the lady who works there is fantastic, very nice and accommodating. the breakfast was the best i had in all of italy. the location is great, it's a 1 minute walk to the maria maggiore. it is a safe area, busy enough, but not loud at nights or in the morning. i stayed in 3 hotels around italy, and the merulana inn was by far the best and most enjoyable.
The only negative thing, is that from around 8:30am to around 11 am, you hear some banging or something from upper floors. it sounds like someone is hammering, or someone is walking with heels. it did wake me up in the mornings, but it was also good b/c it wouldn't let me miss breakfast!

The room was very impressive, the staff were friendly and helpful. the hotel is well placed for all of the main tourist attractions.
Nothing negative to say except a slightly bigger sign by the front door is needed.

Great location, quiet, very clean and neat, nice style.
The hotel was monitored via webcam and there was no staff present. it was very difficult to get into the front door of the building and the door of the hotel-we ended up waiting about 20 minutes all together just to get in the door. the hotel was great and we did not mind the lack of staff, but we wished someone would have explained this feature so we could have been better prepared- and not so confused!

Some of the rooms are located to a very noisy street (via merulana) - try to get one for the other side!, and you lightlhy can hear your neighbours, and if you want to sleep longer than 8am, search for another hotel

The interior design was excellent and even though the rooms are of just an average size the attention to detail was impressive. also the cleanliness was spot on, the room being cleaned every day with fresh towels. (but something you'd probably expext anyway!)
The breakfast was appauling, you get the impression that it's all a little slapped together for the sake of the hotel room description. a basic continental breakfast is something you'd expext but instead there is a selection of three warm juices, some cereal, stale bread and that fruit you get in a can poured into a bowl along with some other things they scrabbled together from the kitchen cupboard. to be honest, they would have been better telling us there was no breakfast available as starting the day to that wasnt the best! also, the set up of the breakfast itself was odd, being a corridor with only 5 tables. another bad point would be the area itself, not only is it one of the most expensive tourist trap areas (being only a short distance from the colosseum but the area in the evening is less than desirable with "dodgy" people on every street corner, particularly bad near the termini station. also, the proximity to anywhere good to eat can only be achieved by a hefty walk or taxi as the local places are rip off and of poor quality.

Very easy to find and in a perfect location to access all the sites. excellent accomadation, the room was fantastic well presented and lovely facilities. breakfast was brill. all round staying here was lovely and made my trip to rome very pleasent.
My only negative comment is that the telephone seemed to ring nearly all evening on one night in particular and we had to let one couple into the apartment as there was no one maning the hotel. i think someone needs to be there to greet and check people into their rooms otherwise it makes your arrival very stressful. i was lucky to arrive at a time when the rooms were being serviced, but it meant my room was not ready as i was too early really to check in.

We booked the ajoining rooms at the merulana as we had our 2 teenage kids with us, and it turned out really well. the accomodation was 1st class , rooms were big and the beds big and comfortable, really clean and modern. ideally situated, within walking distance of most of the main sites, and plenty of nice places to eat without worrying about prices.would definately use again. would recommend to anyone ( any age, couples or singles ) wanting a nice place to explore rome
Quite hard to find, the taxi man could not find it had to phone, we were told of trouble getting in to the hotel if arrive time was out of normal times ie night time, but we were ok as we arrived just after lunch time.

The lady who served breakfast was polite and the breakfast was good during my stay. the sound insulation of the room was perfect and the room was very clean and tidy.
We have to wait for almost half an hour to get somebody to open the main door of the inn for us. there's no hotel staff inside the hotel until the next morning at the cafe when having breakfast, and she was the only hotel staff we met in our entire stay.

The lady that maintained the room and provided breakfast was fantastic.
The biggest problem with this hotel is that if you arrive after 2pm it is next to impossible to get in. it took my husband 3 hours to locate someone to get a key, then the key did not work. i would not recommend you stay here if you are planning to arrive late.

The merulana is in a great location, an easy walk from the train station and the colosseum. the hotel has been recently remodeled and is lovely. the combination of location and facilities make the merulana a great value.
The merulana is small and is not staffed at all hours. those arriving at irregular hours may have problems getting in without previous arrangements. the breakfast is only fair, but that's italy; breakfast is not their thing. overall, though, i recommend the merulana highly.
