Via Cola di Rienzo is not really considered part of the historical center of Rome, though it is within walking distance of the Basilica of Saint Peter. It connects Piazza Risorgimento, located behind Vatican City, with the lungotevere riverfront. Part of the “rione”, or “region” of Prati, it can be considered as a means of connection between the historical center and Vatican City. The Prati rione was originally used for military purposes and this function seems to have remained, given the high concentration of military barracks in the area. Though it isn’t part of the historical district, this street is very well known and is considered the seventh in the world in terms of quality and style of its shops, boutiques and stores.
The stores located along Via Cola di Rienzo offer a wide variety of items, though the majority specializes in clothing and fashion. There is Stefanel, Onix, Miss Sixty, and a number of others, as well as stores such as Geox and Swarovski.
