For visitors to Russia who are looking to immerse themselves in the rich history of the country’s artistic tradition, they should be absolutely certain to visit the famous Tretyakov Gallery. The Gallery is located in Moscow and is the biggest and more important collection of Russian art in all of the world. The gallery has its origins in a singular collector by the name of Pavel Tretyakov who had an extensive collection of contemporary paintings back in his day and later, near the end of his life, donated them to the state.

The building itself is, in a sense, a work of art. The exterior was designed by a painter rather than a traditional architect (the famous Viktor Vasnetsov) in a style meant to evoke the feeling and style of classical Russian fairy tales. With the interior housing some 130,000 important works, the entire location is a must-see attraction for any Russia tourist with even a passing interest in art and culture.
