Historically serving as the residence of Tsars and government officials, the Kremlin in Moscow is the most famous citadel in all of Russia. It’s a must-see attraction for most Russian tourists not only for its own merits, but also its proximity to other attractions such as St. Basil’s Cathedral, Red Square, and the Moskva River. The imposing walls of the Kremlin house not just one but four palaces and four cathedrals. Presently, it is the home of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Notable structures within the Kremlin include Cathedral Square which houses the Cathedral of the Dormition, the Cathedral of the Annunciation, the Cathedral of the Archangel Michael, and the Cathedral of the Twelve Apostles. Others include the Ivan the Great Bell Tower, the Palace of Facets, and the Grand Kremlin Palace. Visitors can tour many of these sites and also visit several Kremlin museums full of valuable and interesting artifacts.
