Russia visitors who are looking for something to do that combines intrigue with history and grand architecture need look no further than the Yusupov Palace, situated upon the Moika River. The Palace is instantly recognizable as an incredibly long building of yellow color, but it’s the inside of the building where the true interest lies. In 1916, this Palace was the site of the mysterious murder of one of Russia’s most enigmatic personalities, Grigory Rasputin.
A self-proclaimed mystic with the supposed powers of a holy man, Rasputin had gotten close to the Tsar and his royal family after using his powers to heal their hemophiliac son. Threatened by the implications of his influence, Prince Yusupov and many of the city’s noble entered a pact to lure Rasputin to the palace and murder him. However, not everything went as intended! Visitors to the Palace can hire tour guides who are more than willing to tell the sinister details of the story and point out in person where it all went down!
