Going on vacation to Russia soon? Great, then stop by Saint Petersburg to see the very first railway station ever built there, its name is Vitebsky Rail Terminal. In fact it was the first railway station to ever be built in the entire Russian Empire; which makes Vitebsky Railway Terminal a very important piece of Russian history as well as railway history. The original first train to run from the station is now on permanent exhibit at the station.

The very first Russian train, by the name of Provorny, departed from its platform on October 30 in the year 1837; the train was headed for the imperial residence. This original building was small and made from timber, so it was only kept up for about twelve years, eventually being replaced by a larger strcture. This new building was constructed between the years of 1849 and 1852, with further additions done in the 1870’s
