In northwestern Slovenia you will find the alpine region of Gorenjska, which is home to Mt Triglav one of Slovenias national symbols. The Mt Triglav National Park and the Julian Alps offer stunning scenery and excellent summer and winter sport possibilities. Adventurous visitors can climb Mt Triglav, which stands at 2900 meters. This area has long been popular with tourists for its marvelous ski resorts and winter sport opportunities. Bled, Bohinj and Kranjska are just three of the towns that have popular ski resorts. In summer the mountains provide scenic panoramas and great hiking trails. The Gorensjka Regional Museum has an archaeological display, which includes some of the most important ethnological finds in Slovenia and a folk art collection. A must see on a getaway to Gorenjska is Lake Bled. Here you can take a gondola out to the little island on the lake and visit its 17th century church. It is a special custom on the island to climb the 99 steps to the medieval chapel and ring the wish bell. In ancient times the Slavic goddess of love and fertility was worshiped on this island. On the lake itself, visitors can enjoy a number of water sports.
