There is a legend that the Slavic Goddess Živa had a temple on Bled Island. Today, the Church of the Assumption stands in its place. You can stay in quiet Bled hotels and visit this church as well as the Parish Church of St. Martin. If you leave your hotels in Bled, whether they are discount hotels in Bled or Bled cheap hotels, early enough in the morning, you can wander along the peaceful shores of Bled Lake. Make your way to shore to rent a rowboat or a gondola for the visit to the Church of the Assumption.

The Church is a 17th century Baroque structure on the site of a prior pre-Romanesque chapel. Little remains from this period. Admire the remaining fragments of frescoes recalling tales from the life of Mary. They date from 1470 and are the product of the workshop of a Master Bolfgang. The church contains four altars. The three oldest are from the workshop of Kuša (Mihael Cussa). They are from around 1699 while the main altar is Baroque and from 1747.
