Kranj Hotels and Accommodation
The city of Kranj is in the region of Gorensjka in Slovenia. In the background are mountains, including the snow-topped peak of Mount Storzic. For visitors staying in budget hotels in Kranj, the best view of the Old Town is from across the Sava River. This community dates back to ancient times, when a Roman road ran through here. The burial grounds of early Slav invaders can be partially seen through the floor of the Gorenjska Museum. Kranj’s Old Town is very attractive, even though it is quite small. It sits on an escarpment above the confluence of the Sava and Kokra rivers, and contains most of what is interesting. Among the things to see are the main square and the medieval market place.
Once you’ve booked into your discount hotel in Kranj, you can go on a walking tour. First stop is the Maistrow Trg. This was the gateway of the Old Town, and dates from the 15th century. Here you can see the Spital Tower, one of seven towers along the walls. Then go to the Preseren Memorial Museum, which is dedicated to the poet France Preseren. He lived the last years of his life in this house, and is buried nearby. The town’s beautiful main square is Glavni Trg. It is surrounded by Gothic and Renaissance buildings that include the Gorenjska Museum and the 15th century Parish Church of St. Cantianus.
