The 15th century Maribor Castle is an impressive example of architecture. It was constructed as part of a fortification system in the town. It has been home to several wealthy noble lords, including the Counts Khisli and the Counts Brandis. The structure includes a Laurentine Chapel (1655) and a brick bastille (1532). Rococo became the next style of preference in the 18th century.
