Logarska Dolina is one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Europe and is a must see for nature lovers on a Slovenian getaway. The valley is a great starting point for hiking up into the nearby Kamnik-Savinja Alps. In winter time the area is known for its cross-country and downhill skiing and ice-climbing. EasyToBook.com has cheap hotels in the Savinsjka region for visitors to this stunning destination.
Vrbovec Castle lies where the Savinja and Dreta rivers meet and dates from the 12th century. The current castle was built in the 15th century and was owned by the powerful Counts of Celje. In the village of Šempeter v Savinjski Dolini are some of Slovenia’s most important archaeological remains: a Roman burial ground dating from around the time of Emperor Trajan or 96 – 235 A.D. At Gornji Grad there is a Benedictine monastery dating from the 12th century and Stekl, a former defense tower, has an ethnological collection. Gornji Grad was previously the summer residence of the Ljubljana bishops and there are several bishop tombs that can be visited in the cathedral of St. Hermagor and St. Fortunat.
