Benissa is a small town of 12,424 inhabitants, located by the Mediterranean Sea, along the Costa Blanca in the region of Valencia, Spain. It is the oldest center of population along that part of the coast. Benissa was given its name by the Moors, although it had existed long before the Moors had settled there. When the Christians took it back in 1238, they kept the name, but, in 1609, expelled the town's Moorish inhabitants.
