Badajoz, Spain is a sizable city of 145,257 inhabitants, located near the border of Spain and Portugal, in the region of Extremadura. Founded by Moors in the 9th century AD, the city has served as military fort and a center of trade, in particular with Portugal. During the Napoleonic Wars, the city was the site of a long siege. After a considerable expenditure of time and manpower, the British succeeded in taking the city from the French. The British still celebrate the anniversary of the end of the siege every April 6.

The big attractions of Badajoz have to do with its military history. The ruins of the original Moorish castle is one big draw. It is at the top of the city's tallest hill and visible from all the Badajoz hotels. Another attraction are the city's massive fortifications, which include big walls, a moat with a bridge of granite, and the fort of San Cristobal. The Cathedral of Badajoz is another attraction, and also looks vaguely military. The best way to find hotels in Badajoz is through sites like EasyToBook.com, which let visitors find Badajoz cheap hotels and book discount hotels in Badajoz.
