Merida Hotels and Accommodation
Merida is the capital of the Spanish region of Exteremadura. It is a medium-sized town, with a population of about 75,000 permanent residents. The city was founded by the Romans during their conquest of Spain, and served an important function during Roman times: it guarded one of the only crossings of the Guadiana River. It was one of the most important population centers in the entire Europe-spanning empire of late Rome. To this day, Merida is most famous for its high number of remaining Roman monuments and structures. Merida hotels are full of ancient history buffs en route to Italy, hoping to catch a glimpse of the glory that once was Rome.
The most important sights in Merida are the Puente Romano, the original bridge over the Guadiana that the city was built to guard; as well as the town's Forum, and what's left of the town's Circus Maximus. However, budget travelers beware: hotels in Merida can be expensive, as it's a popular tourist destination. Use EasyToBook.com or similar sites to find discount hotels in Merida before you go.
